The individual selected for this position will work in the Wildlife Resource Section of the Department's Wildlife Division and be responsible for assisting the District Wildlife Resource Supervisor with the development, operation, maintenance and overall management of District Wildlife Management Areas (WMA). This includes coordinating and managing development or maintenance work projects like tree plantings, herbaceous cover or food plot establishment, noxious weed control, prescribed burning, fence construction and maintenance, water level management, and sign installation as well as WMA lease agreements, federal aid workplans, annual management plans and daily administrative duties. This position shall perform hiring and supervising of seasonal employees; assist with supervision of wildlife technicians; coordinate and respond to wildlife depredation; and assist the Game Management Section in game surveys (possibly including aerial surveys), management and research activities. This position will also assist the Private Lands Section, as necessary, with implementation and delivery of private land habitat and access components of the Department's Private Land Initiative (PLI). This position will provide educational services as needed and technical assistance on wildlife management based on sound biological principles and practices. Accomplishment of work objectives will require extensive coordination and collaboration with private landowners, contractors, energy developers, other federal, state, and public information duties may also be assigned as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife biology or wildlife management, or closely related natural resource science degree and two years of professional work experience with wildlife or natural resource management agency. A Master's degree in a closely related field can substitute for one year of work experience.This position requires a working knowledge and experience in the following areas: wildlife management concepts, wildlife habitat and land management practices, habitat requirements for Northern Great Plains wildlife, federal and state agricultural conservation programs and production agriculture. The individual must possess well-developed communication skills, both oral and written, be highly responsible, be well organized and have attention to detail. Must have the ability to work with private landowners, farmers/ranchers, other wildlife management professionals, wildlife groups and the general public. Must be self-motivated and adaptable to a fast-paced work environment. Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word and Excel).The individual must have the ability to operate farm type equipment, grass drills, trucks/trailers, ATVs/UTVs and other equipment. The individual must have a valid driver's license, be able to lift at least 50 pounds and be willing to travel. Responsible for the management of the Conservation Section staff and program delivery within the Department's Conservation and Communications division. This includes supervision of a team of conservation biologists. Develop program budgets for the section and monitor spending. Oversee management of rare and declining species in the state to include development and implementation of the State Wildlife Action Plan and associated habitat programs, research projects, survey/monitoring efforts, and necessary conservation and contingency measures. Supervise Department's environmental review of development projects having potential to impact the state wildlife resource. Facilitate interagency coordination at Federal, State and local levels that creates awareness of fish and wildlife habitat concerns and stresses resource protection through avoidance of adverse impacts.Active participation in local, regional, national and international committees and working groups necessary to forward large scale landscape level species and habitat conservation to best achieve agency goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in wildlife management/conservation, natural resource management/conservation, environmental science, biology, or another closely related natural resource or environmental related discipline and five years of professional work experience in these areas. At least two year's work experience must have included personnel supervision, conservation program management, and/or budgetary oversight. This position requires extensive knowledge of natural resource conservation, as well as have experience in people management, conservation program responsibility, conflict resolution, and/or budget oversight. Applicants must demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to balance different interests. Applicant must be extremely self-motivated and have the ability to motivate others, solve problems, resolve conflict, and respond quickly to make many independent decisions. Dove banding technician duties involve determining potential mourning dove banding sites, securing permission to band doves on private and public property, maintenance of equipment/bait, running trap sites morning and evening, banding doves, entering dove banding data, maintaining detailed banding records, and using conibear and/or live traps to eliminate potential predation problems. Successful applicants will also be expected to write a summary report of banding activities at the end of the banding season.Successful applicants will possess a strong ability to work independently from supervision and work well as part of a small team. Selected applicants must have a strong work ethic to meet goals, timelines, problem solve, and collect and maintain large amounts of data. A work vehicle will be provided to conduct assigned responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be enrolled at or a recent graduate of a college or university majoring in a wildlife, natural resources, or other closely related program. Students should be in good academic standing with knowledge of basic fish and wildlife management principles and practices. Fisheries Seasonal Technician Opportunities exist in the following areas:Fisheries Management - essential functions:Assist fisheries personnel with reproduction and population test netting, trap and transport of different fish species, limnological sampling and spawning activities. Work may involve creel surveys and data compilation loading unloading boats, nets and other equipmentAssist with habitat enhancementFisheries equipment and gear maintenance (including net repair)General maintenance of building and other equipment at District OfficesAquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) - essential functions:Conduct watercraft inspections to prevent ANS introductionEducate water users about ANS and the laws and best practices to prevent their spreadAssist fisheries professionals with ANS early detection surveysFisheries Development (boat ramps, docks, piers) - essential functions:Construction of related facilities include- boat ramps, parking areas, turnaround areas, roads and placement of required materialsOperation of a wide variety of heavy equipment which includes - compact track loaders, backhoes, pay loaders, etc. to accomplish program activitiesSigning at waterbodies throughout the stateMaintenance of deteriorated ramps, signs, courtesy docks, fishing piers, etc.Operation of power tools and small engine toolsMaintenance of heavy equipment and small engines*Fisheries development seasonals will work out of Bismarck and cover the state in construction and renovation of new/old facilities. A typical work week for development crew would consist of working Monday-Wednesday collecting 40 hours and 4-day weekends. Overnight travel may be required (vehicles provided). Expenses while away from main work-station will be reimbursed per policy (includes hotel and meals)

Minimum Qualifications

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds over their head and possess a valid driver's license. Must be at least 18 years old on their start date. Basic skills/knowledge required for these positions are the ability to work alone with limited supervision, learn to operate equipment with minimal training and the ability to represent the department in a professional manner. Individuals must be capable of working long, irregular hours outdoors, under adverse weather conditions and occasionally overnight.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given for:Applicants enrolled at, or a recent graduate of a college or university majoring in an aquatic biology related field. Students should be in good academic standing with knowledge of basic fish management principles and practices and basic computer skills.
