Career Description
The North Dakota Department of Labor and Human Rights enforces state labor, human rights, and wage laws and educates the public on such laws. The Department is seeking a Compliance Investigator II to conduct impartial investigations and issue written decisions related to our laws.As a Compliance Investigator II for the Department, you will investigate, enforce, and educate regarding: (1) Discrimination in employment, housing, public services, public accommodations, and credit transactions; (2) Wage and hour violations; and (3) Labor standards laws. The duties will include:Responding to questions from, and providing general guidance to, the public regarding labor, human rights, and wage laws;Conducting telephonic interviews with claimants, respondents, and relevant witnesses;Analyzing evidence gathered during investigations and applying appropriate legal standards;Drafting detailed written decisions that include factual findings and conclusions of law;Conducting settlement negotiations as a neutral mediator between adverse parties;Conducting educational presentations on labor, human rights, and wage laws to the public;Serving as an education/training resource for investigators and assisting in the group review of written decisions; andOther duties as assigned.To succeed in this role, you should have a strong passion for working as a member of a team. Our department has a vision for delivering modernized approaches to addressing labor, human rights, and wage issues in North Dakota.Skills and experience critical to this position include:Conducting telephonic interviews or investigations.Exceptional grammar and written communication skills with the ability to prepare detailed written decisions & correspondence.A professional and respectful demeanor.Astute analytical and critical thinking. Interpreting and analyzing information while accurately applying laws and preparing written decisions and correspondence.Maintaining a neutral and objective perspective.Efficiently and effectively working with North Dakota's diverse population.Cooperatively interacting within a team and with a variety of organizations. Ability to multitask and independently manage a caseload at various stages of completion, balancing multiple projects & demands while meeting deadlines.To be considered for the Compliance Investigator II position, you must have:Bachelor's degree & 2 years of relevant work experience.Additional work experience as described above may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.A master's degree may substitute for the work experience requirement.Location: Remote from anywhere within the State of North Dakota or hybrid work with space available in Bismarck, ND.Starting Salary: $61,440 per year or $5,120 monthly with up to a 5% increase after successful completion of one (1) year probation.Application Procedures:Applicants must complete an online application via the State of ND Careers site: www.nd.gov/careers by 11:59 p.m. on the closing date.Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
