Career Description
Location: Bismarck, NDSalary Range: $5,547 - $8,533/mo. full range Closing Date: January 19, 2025Type of Recruitment: Internal/External
Responsible for the management of the Conservation Section staff and program delivery within the Department's Conservation and Communications division. This includes supervision of a team of conservation biologists. Develop program budgets for the section and monitor spending. Oversee management of rare and declining species in the state to include development and implementation of the State Wildlife Action Plan and associated habitat programs, research projects, survey/monitoring efforts, and necessary conservation and contingency measures. Supervise Department's environmental review of development projects having potential to impact the state wildlife resource. Facilitate interagency coordination at Federal, State and local levels that creates awareness of fish and wildlife habitat concerns and stresses resource protection through avoidance of adverse impacts.Active participation in local, regional, national and international committees and working groups necessary to forward large scale landscape level species and habitat conservation to best achieve agency goals and objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in wildlife management/conservation, natural resource management/conservation, environmental science, biology, or another closely related natural resource or environmental related discipline and five years of professional work experience in these areas. At least two year's work experience must have included personnel supervision, conservation program management, and/or budgetary oversight. This position requires extensive knowledge of natural resource conservation, as well as have experience in people management, conservation program responsibility, conflict resolution, and/or budget oversight. Applicants must demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to balance different interests. Applicant must be extremely self-motivated and have the ability to motivate others, solve problems, resolve conflict, and respond quickly to make many independent decisions. Applicant must be highly organized, have well-developed interpersonal skills, and experience with a diverse group of people. Must be able to work under stress, remain calm, and maintain focus under demanding and conflicting work schedules with rapid shifts in priority. Applicants must be able to demonstrate an ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, and Excel). Applicant must be a proficient writer and possess well developed communication skills. Applicant must have a valid driver's license and able to work weekends and evenings as required.Requires satisfactory completion of a criminal background check.
